Part 1 of a discussion of a problem I have long noticed in thinking, what I have dubbed 'the problem of scale.' It is where you see something divorced from a larger perspective, so that it mushrooms beyond what it really is. It can be either a physical thing or an intellectual principle that is mushroomed beyond proportion. It is often the result of some myopic focus where a person loses true objectivity.
