Liz knew how badly her children wanted a dog. But she didn’t want just any dog, she wanted one that would be trained and smart. One who would not only love, but also protect her children. And she wanted to give a service animal a place to relax. They got their chance when a police dog was set to retire without having a new home lined up. From the first meeting, there was a bond between the family and the dog. Which is why they were all devastated when he collapsed during a hike. They rushed him to the vet, and when the doctor examined him, he turned pale as he discovered the cause of his pain.
